I believe that in order to answer the main question of how to help the poor without taxing the rich, we must take a look at the main issue of why people suffer with poverty. This is why I wanted to take a look at how to help the poor, other than using taxes to fund their aid programs. I believe that the main problem for those who suffer from poverty is that they do not have a constant or even temporary source of income. This is why I want to deal with how the government can create jobs for the poor that can help them out of poverty. I would like to take a look at demographics and how different backgrounds are affected by poverty. According to some experts one way to reduce unemployment is by creating more jobs dealing with construction and sanitation since more workers can fulfill thee jobs and they are easier to create.
There are 9 million people in the USA that do not have jobs, putting those millions deep into poverty. I believe that creating jobs will help to alleviate that number. The Center for American Progress writers Sabina Dewan and Jordan Bernhardt, who research a lot about economics in the US, write about many current issues, and even talk about how creating jobs in the main way to take people out of poverty. The government, which is a larger institution playing a role in the economy, must work to provide “just jobs-the sort that come with good pay, good benefits, and good working conditions…” No other institution will be able to create so many jobs effectively and efficiently. Any jobs will do. These authors, as well as others, discuss how any source of income for these unemployed people is good.
Obviously there are people who are poor and do have jobs, but I believe in order to lessen the low point of poverty, these employed people must be helped first. Some things that could work to lessen unemployment are the implementation of construction jobs and sanitary jobs. These could be short term or long term and could therefore help more people who are in need of jobs, since even unskilled workers can do these jobs. This is a huge goal, but I believe that it is the first step that needs to be taken in order to help the poor. This is just one way to help the poor without taxing the rich, but I want to try and find easier solutions that can be implemented in the near future.
