Most would agree that the sound of quitting a job to start a clothing business from scratch is totally insane and risky. But Ian and Shep certainly don't, taking into account that that's what they did with the start of Vineyard Vines. In the article, “What The Vineyard Vines Founders Know About Success That Thousands Of Entrepreneurs Don't” the author for Forbes magazine, Kathy Caprino, interviews the 2 brothers and founders of Vineyard Vines, a 100 million dollar clothing company. They talk about what they have learned to achieve success. The main keys to success for them were to have a theme to their clothing that generated a lifestyle and making the customers happy.
Vineyard Vines is known for their preppy, southern style. This look created a lifestyle that drew attention to people. It appealed to many, especially ones that were searching for this certain look. This was a huge reason for the company’s success. Shep - one of the founders - explains, “You can sell a bad product once to anyone. The key to success is generating repeat customers. We’re not selling clothes – we’re selling a lifestyle.”
Vineyard Vines second key to success was to make sure their customers are happy. To be successful in a business, the customer’s satisfaction should be a top priority and that is what Vineyard Vines made sure of. “The key to our success, we think, is the amazing team we’ve assembled, and our stores – we work really hard to provide a warm, gracious, helpful and inviting experience. We do whatever it takes to make the customer happy.” By making their success a reality they built a helpful strong team that attained customer satisfaction and by giving them a desire to come again.
