- SeaWorld has been treating animals very poorly and it has taken major tolls on the animal’s physical and mental health. With that said, the effects on the animals have also caused a domino effect as the animal’s anger and depression have caused major harm to trainers and other humans. Numerous times SeaWorld has promised to change their practices and improve their practices to help better the animals lives, although they have not been entirely truthful with implementing it. Resulting in the government needing to step in and take action to help solves the harm on the animals and trainers. Therefore the government and many organizations have become involved in setting laws against SeaWorld to make changes against their practices.
- One documentary, Blackfish had the ability to gain attention from the public and even more attention from the government, to encourage the government to make even more laws to limit SeaWorld’s cruel treatments, one being, from the petition update page, on “15 September 2016: We won! The Blackfish Bill has officially been passed by California. This means that SeaWorld is now required by law to end killer whale breeding and entertainment shows.” This is a biased and reliable source at the same time, because their job is to create and allow people to sign petitions if they believe in such issue, and after may signatures the website updated people as they were able to take legal action and get the law passed. Obviously SeaWorld is not agreed and accepted these new laws to prohibit the breeding or capturing of new Orca whales, because it prevents them from making the large profits and revenue the Orcas and their shows brought in, they even violated many laws made the government, for example, “SeaWorld got busted by a US government agency for violating the Animal Abuse Act -- and we may have a rare chance to end its animal cruelty for good. SeaWorld keeps orca whales in tiny, cage-like tanks -- and the USDA citation reveals conditions at the park are dangerous to the animals' health. SeaWorld is still defending its barbaric practices, but pressure is building on the company.
In conclusion, SeaWorld has shown that they do not really care about their animals and their health, all the care about it the revenue and profit they make from the whales and their shows. Therefore, the government needed to get involved to pass the Blackfish bill, “The Blackfish Bill has officially been passed by California. This means that SeaWorld is now required by law to end killer whale breeding and entertainment shows. Update, 17 March 2016: Under enormous pressure, SeaWorld just announced that it will end its orca breeding program.”, because this bill is one of the first legal steps that will help destroy SeaWorld’s cruel animal treatment. The Blackfish documentary already caused “SeaWorld shares lost almost 33 percent of their value, falling from $28.15 per share at closing on August 12, 2014 to $18.90 per share on August 13, 2014,” the lawsuit stated. That decline “eliminated more than $830 million from” SeaWorld’s “market capitalization in just one day” so creating more laws will eventually be able to shut and end SeaWorld.
