Concussions in Players

The economic principle I examined was institutions are the “rules of the game” that influence choices. There are many situations where this economic principle can be applied to the real world. For instance, while studying concussions in athletes I found many examples of this principle. First, according to the NFL, “referees will take on more responsibility this season to protect players from helmet-first hits to their heads and necks.” They have added more rules that will protect “defenseless” players from to take any shots above their shoulders. This shows that the NFL wants to let the players play, but let them be able to walk off the field unharmed. This may affect how the players play because their movements will be restricted. Second, the NFL doesn't always have their players as their top priority.  For example  a report was released by the Democratic staff of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the NFL pressured the NIH to cancel a $16-million grant to study football-related brain injuries to a prominent Boston brain researcher who the league claimed was biased. There was no evidence of any biased. fThis demonstrates that if the NFL only wants profit by the players but is not concerned with player’s safety then in the future players can have many health risks. Third, when a doctor gives recommendations to stay off the field to protect the player. This means that players will sometimes lie about their injuries so they can continue playing. Overall, you can see that when you put certain restrictions on things then that will influence actions.
